Maxi Gomez began his career a youth player of Litoral. After being promoted from the youth team of Defensor Sporting, he started playing in a senior team of Defensor Sporting in 2015. He debuted professionally on 15th September 2015,replacing Hector Acuna in a 1-0 victory over Universitario.

Following that, Gomez made his Primera Division debut in a 0-4 loss against Nacional on October 4, 2015. Later, he scored his first professional goal in a 2-3 defeat against Montevideo Wanderers on 16th October 2015.

Gomez scored four goals on 22nd May 2016, in a 6-5 win over El Tanque Sisley. During his first season, he played 21 games netting 14 goals. Before leaving the club in 2017, he scored 28 goals in 47 appearances.

Celta Vigo
