How To Paint The Ceilings Of Your Home

Painting can be the best way to give your home a DIY look. And of course, it’s real fun too. But most people come up with difficulties on how to paint the ceilings. Well, it’s not all that complicated either.

When you start with the task of painting your home, the ceiling comes very first in the list. Here we have an easy step-by-step guide for you to make this job simpler and enjoyable:

Materials and Tools Needed:

Before you get-set-go, make sure to check on the tools and equipment’s needed:

  • Paint
  • Primer
  • Painter’s tape
  • Roller and Extension Pole
  • Roller tray
  • Drop cloth
  • Stepladder
  • Damp sponge or cloth

Step 1

Before starting to paint, clear all the furniture from the room so that it doesn’t get into your way and you can easily paint. Cover the extra furniture and floor with drop cloths to protect them from paint splatters.

Step 2

If you’ve got to paint the entire room, then you must start with the ceiling. On the other hand, if only ceiling is to be painted, then use painter’s tape where the walls and the ceiling meet to decorate the edges.

Step 3

If you wish to avoid over coating your paint, then you must apply a coat of primer first. Primer provides for a stain barrier and also saves the effort of putting up that extra coat of paint.

Step 4

Now, it’s time for you to use the stepladder to paint a 3 x 3” section of cut-line along the edges of the ceiling with a brush before using a roller. Start at the corner farthest from the entry door.

While you see that the cut-line is still wet, start with painting the ceiling with the roller as painting on the wet cut-lines would reduce the possibility of any visible lines. The same is to be applied for each section with the roller.

Step 5

Now that you’re done with the cut-lines, let’s start with the roller. For this, fill the roller tray with paint and then roll the apparatus over the paint. You don’t really need to immerse the entire roller into the paint, just slightly slide it over the paint back and forth till the nap is all covered.

Step 6

After the roller is all covered with paint, attach the extension handle pole to it. For painting the ceiling, use the roller on the ceiling in a zigzag pattern or paint with diagonal strokes. Then go over the same area with controlled back and forth strokes to distribute the paint evenly. Keep in mind to use eye protection while painting overhead. For the final smoothening, roll each section towards the wall that contains the entry door. Don’t forget to lift the roller at the end of each sweep.

Once you’re done with it, let the paint dry completely first and then decide whether an additional coat is needed or not. If the need be, then repeat the same process again.
