How To Build A Roof

Roofs are typically made from clay or tiles, but depending on where you’re located, your roof might be made of wood or tassel. Current roofs have become increasingly diverse, ranging from asbestos, tiles or metal roofs that look shiny and are energy efficient. Each material has their own shortcomings and benefits though. With help from Total Roofing, we will explain the different types of materials to you.

Asbestos roofs are less expensive in terms of the price of materials and installation; however, they also tend to absorb more heat because its pores are smaller and do not neutralize any heat. Asbestos roofs are also extremely harmful to your health.

Tiles or clay are more expensive in terms of cost and installation compared to asbestos or metal, but tiles tend to be cooler because the pores are wider and are less likely to be damaged in high winds. Metal roofing has become increasingly popular as it replaces asbestos and shingles. It’s also found to be quite energy efficient and a less expensive green option if you don’t want to fully commit to solar shingles.

Asphalt and fiber roofing are not yet common in some places. However, because countries like Japan are prone to earthquakes and natural disasters, this type of roofing is quite useful. These materials have many advantages such as being noise resistant, making the house cooler and it is also eco friendly. The price for this type of roof though is more expensive than the other because the materials have to be imported from abroad.

The last major material is concrete which is popular in many cities. This material is particularly useful for commercial buildings. However, the downside of this material is the lack of pores that allows air in the building; therefore, it might a little hotter in buildings that have concrete roofs.
