A Quick Guide to Common Bed Frame Styles

Have you been looking for your dream bed? Have all the styles of beds that you see in magazines, or on TV, made you wonder just what possibilities there exist for your own? The true extent of designs available are nearly endless, but a few do catch the eye as some of the most popular and the most elegant in motif.  So, if you’re looking for the right type of bed that really complements your room’s decor, here are a few styles which will surely appeal to you.

Four-Poster Bed

A four-poster bed is, as the name implies, a type of bed with four posts at each corner of the bed. It offers a very classic look, as they are often made of wood, and can either be made with short posts or tall ones that reach high into the room. The taller posts can also either be made with or without a railing in between the posts. This railing holds an essential purpose in beds with a canopy, but in regular four-poster beds, it mostly serves to add to the elegant flair of the bed and its overall presence in the room.

Canopy

Much like the four-poster bed, canopy beds share four posts at each corner, usually very tall and generally with railing. Unlike regular four-poster beds, the canopy beds also have curtains or fabrics draped along them to offer a dramatic beauty to your bed. Closing the curtains can add to privacy or prevent drafts while you sleep, and the fabrics can be interchanged depending on the season.

Wrought Iron Bed

If you’re looking for a more rustic, romantic look, you may want to consider a wrought iron bed. These types of beds are built sturdier than most, and will last a lot longer. If you’re looking at metal beds but want something less bohemian, consider a brass bed instead. Much like the wrought iron, they are sturdy, but invoke an era of steam and train travel more than anything else. A fair warning, though, when it comes to beds made of metal, plenty of pillows and cushions may be needed to prevent any uncomfortable clashes with the headboard.

Sleigh Bed

While you won’t be finding this bed on the slopes, you’ll certainly be reminded of light, wintery designs by the gentle curve on the headboard and footboard of a sleigh bed. Less patent than any of the styles above, sleigh beds are almost subtle in shape, and therefore inviting to be sat upon. The soothing shapes of this type of bed can be very complimentary to a soft coloured room.

Platform Bed

Finally, one the most simple of the beds on the list, and by far one of the most popular, is the platform bed. At its core, it consists of a solid platform and a mattress. It’s perfect for modern bedrooms and has a sleek design that fits right into small spaces. Some can even house drawers, adding to the utility of the platform bed.
