The Wild Boars football team are still recovering in hospital after being rescued from the Tham Luang cave complex.

They have been pictured together for the first time since the dramatic rescue mission to save them.

Thai officials released a picture of all 12 of the boys and their football coach posing with a sketch of ex-Navy Seal diver Saman Kunan, who died while trying to rescue them.

The boys, aged 11 to 16, were only told about his death on Saturday after medics said they were strong enough to handle the news. Many of them wept after hearing of his death, officials said.

The team expressed their condolences by writing messages on a drawing of Saman and observed a one minute silence for him.

Images showed the boys standing around a table after writing messages onto the sketch with their heads bowed.

Jedsada Chokdamrongsuk, permanent secretary of the health ministry, said: “All cried and expressed their condolences by writing messages on a drawing of Lieutenant Commander Saman and observed one minute of silence for him,”

“They also thanked him and promised to be good boys.”

Saman Kunan who died while helping with the cave rescue effort

Saman, who had volunteered to help with the rescue effort, died on July 6 while installing oxygen tanks along the twisting passageways of the cave.

On Saturday, officials shared uplifting video footage of the boys and their football coach sitting up in hospital thanking the divers who helped them out of the cave to safety and revealing their food wish lists.

The health minister said they are expected to be discharged from hospital next week. The last of the boys and their football coach were rescued on Tuesday after a 17-day ordeal trapped inside the cave.
