Controversies

Anthony Joshua lost his first ever fight to Andy Ruiz – what will happen now, will there be a rematch and what is his net worth?

Will there be a rematch between Joshua and Ruiz Jr?

As one of the most impressive surprises in the history of heavyweight boxing, Joshua lost his world titles, won with such effort, by the man who faced the fight with only five weeks early, after replacing Jarrell Miller after his failed drug tests.

Joshua was struck on the canvas FOUR times, spitting out his rubber protector and clinging to the ropes.

Joshua even asked his man in the corner “Why do I feel this way?” During the catastrophic defeat.

Nobody gave the fat Ruiz a chance, but despite being out of shape, Mexican Americans dominated the fight before it stopped in the seventh round.

Joshua insisted that he will recover. After the fight, he said:  “It’s a mess, it’s unexpected. I was the favorite.

“One shot hit me on the top of the dome and rattled me a bit. I tried to stay in there a few more rounds but the better man won.

“I don’t underestimate anyone. He’s a decent puncher, a decent fighter. He was the better man.

“I’ll tidy up, brush off the cobwebs and go again. But it’s a minor setback.

“Trust me, where I was at in life, I’ve dealt with more s*** than this, with some real big losses, and bounced back.

“If I was to look at my setbacks back then then I would have been f*****. I didn’t. I kept my head strong, fought like a champion, and bounced back.”

Fans expect there will be a rematch at Wembley in December but Joshua admitted he didn’t know if a rematch clause had been included in the fight contract.

He said: “I didn’t even ask about a rematch clause because I was so confident I was going to win. If it’s there, we’ll go again and I’ll get the titles back. I’m going to beat him up.”

Fans have noticed that reconnecting Joshua with his Nigerian roots would give him an advantage in the revenge.

@AnthonioC_ tweeted, The next person you going fight will fall like the walls of Jericho

.” @Haddadin7 said, “And this is the champion of the world bonding with his people to feel the edge to focus and fight again for them! Great way to search for motives and #Stayhumble.”

Joshua to face Ruiz rematch before end of year

Anthony Joshua will try to reclaim his heavyweight titles from Andy Ruiz Jr. before the end of the year after activating a revenge clause in his contract, promoter Eddie Hearn said Tuesday.

In a short Twitter post, Hearn said that Joshua opted for an immediate rematch against Ruiz Jr, who surprised the boxing world with a knockout in the seventh round of the British fighter on Saturday.

“After meetings with AJ, (trainer) Rob (McCracken) and the management team in NY, we have today triggered the contracted rematch clause with Andy Ruiz Jnr,” Hearn wrote.

“The fight will take place in Nov/Dec at a venue to be confirmed shortly.” Ruiz Jr. pulled off one of the biggest upsets in the history of the heavyweight division at Madison Square Garden on Saturday with his sensational stoppage of Joshua, the previously unbeaten WBA, IBF, and WBO heavyweight champion.

The 29-year-old Ruiz started the fight as a massive 32-1 underdog but floored Joshua four times on his way to a win which upended the heavyweight division. In comments to ESPN later Tuesday, Hearn said Joshua was anxious to get back in the ring with Ruiz as quickly as possible.

“There was no point in waiting,” Hearn told the US sports network.

“We’ve talked about it and it’s happening. There’s no other fight AJ wants, so there was no point waiting 30 days. Everybody needs clarity. We sat down and it wasn’t even a case of him asking what else is out there.

The rematch is the fight we need, and that’s what we’ll be doing.” Hearn had initially indicated the rematch is likely to take place in Britain, where Joshua regularly sells out large-capacity venues.

However,  he told ESPN on Tuesday that the choice of venue remained open. “My gut feeling was the UK but not guaranteed,” Hearn said. “We have to look at everything.

The people at (US broadcaster) DAZN and Madison Square Garden would like to do Part 2 in the US. “Joshua came to Andy Ruiz’s country for the first fight, so it kind of makes sense to the second fight in the UK. So we’ll see.”

What Ruiz said before the Anthony Joshua fight

No one gave the Mexican boxer, Andy Ruiz, a chance against the British / Nigerian champion, Anthony Joshua, but the unimaginable happened. The Mexican eliminated the British in the seventh round. It was like a struggle between deep desire and routine.
Desire won like in the Champions League match of the second stage between Barcelona and Liverpool. Ruiz was against the world, stood still and shot him down. This is what he said after his April team and posted it on his Instagram page on April 22, 2019, long before the fight.
“Anthony Joshua, I’m your opponent for June 1st. I’m here I’m ready. Sign your portion. It’s been a long time coming. We shoulda met few years ago when I fought for the WBO belt.
Styles make fights, I know my style is one that you haven’t met before.
That WBO belt is actually mine because the whole world knows I beat Parker for it in New Zealand. I’ve been waiting a long time to get these straps from you.
U can hold them down for me until June 1st. To anybody counting me out already, get in line I’ve been counted out since I first started fighting. Nothing is stopping me now.”
Posted on Instagram by Andy Ruiz Jr on April 22nd. It was a desire that came through. It must have been a routine fight for British/Nigerian Joshua but to the Mexican, it was a fight of a lifetime. And so it happened for him.

Anthony Joshua demands showdown talks with Wilder

The Briton added: “What people say on camera is different to what people say eye to eye. So I have to sit down with him man-to-man and see where he’s at.”
Wilder has won 41 of his 42 fights, the other being a controversial draw with Britain’s Tyson Fury in December. He beat Ortiz via a 10th-round knockout in their first fight in March 2018 and announced their rematch on Twitter.
Joshua added: “Fighting the Ruizes of the world is more dangerous than fighting the likes of Wilder. Why would I fight talent who has potential to beat me when I can just fight Wilder, who is talented but who has what I want? “I’d rather take the Wilder opportunity.
I don’t want to keep fighting these guys, I want to get straight to the big fights.”

Anthony Joshua: I turned down £50,000 offer because I didn’t take up boxing for money but to win medals

The story of Anthony Oluwafemi Olaseni Joshua is an exciting and challenging story, a story about how to overcome overwhelming challenges inside and outside the ring.

He was born in Watford, Hertfordshire. His mother is Nigerian and his father, English with Nigerian and Irish origins. Joshua spent some of his early years in Nigeria as a college student at the Mayflower School, Ikenne and probably later developed a love for his culture.

After his parents’ divorce when he was 12, he returned to the UK to continue high school. Growing up, he excelled in football and track and field and broke his school’s 100-meter record for the Nine years with a time of 11.6 seconds. Joshua was a latecomer in boxing. He started boxing only in 2007 at the age of 18, at the request of his cousin.

He immediately showed great promise in sports and, in his 18th fight, he was offered £ 50,000 to become a professional. He rejected the offer.

“Refusing that £ 50,000 was easy. “I didn’t take the sport for money, I want to win medals,” he recalled later. Joshua represented England at the 2011 World Cup as an amateur in the heavyweight division overcoming a silver medal; He also represented Britain at the 2012 Olympic Games, winning gold.

In 2014, a year after becoming a professional, he was named Prospect of the Year by The Ring magazine. In 2017, his successful fight against Wladimir Klitschko was named Fight of the Year by The Ring and the Boxing Writers Association of America.

Joshua is the second British boxer, after James DeGale, to win a gold medal at the Olympic Games and a world title by an important professional sanctioning body, in addition to being the first British heavyweight to reach him.

He is currently a unified world heavyweight champion, with three of the four major boxing championships: the IBF title from 2016, the WBA title (Super) from 2017 and the WBO title from 2018.

It has also been awarded the IBO title since 2017, and at the regional level it has achieved the heavyweight titles of Great Britain and Great Britain from 2014 to 2016. Best asset In September 2018, Joshua was ranked as the best active heavyweight in the world by The Ring, the Transnational. Boarding Classification Board (TBRB) and BoxRec.

Known for his exceptional power to strike, he has finished all his fights to date for direct elimination. He was named a member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in 2013 with the award for his boxing services.

Such is a stimulating story everywhere. But Joshua is a Nigerian and made an extraordinary announcement of that identity with the Globacom TVC.

The champion, who always enters the ring proudly with a Nigerian flag, sees the “Nigerian fighting spirit” in his winning mentality. He says of that inner strength: “Inner strength?

Yes, it comes from the heart … And we Nigerians know everything about it. We’re not down. We get up and fight. He is sure of speed, technique, quality of shots, reach.

But the real fight? It’s me. “Wilder changes direction, says he now wants to fight with Joshua before Fury’s revenge. A TVC sequel has captured Nigerian reactions to the inspirational message in the iconic spot.

The sequel begins with a student from the University of Lagos watching the Anthony Joshua commercial. So a teenager is seen watching TVC in his father’s living room. TVCs become fishermen who launch their network for a tour in Lagos.

The spot then turns into a tailor who fights in Aba inspired by the message of Anthony Joshua. What follows is a group of basketball players in Port Harcourt watching Joshua’s message on an ipad in the field, closely followed by a Sokoto classroom where students gathered to see Joshua’s message on a laptop .

A young boxer also followed the world champion’s tutorials and later won his battle, while a manager in Abuja was seen watching the message on his phone.

Everyone shone with pride for the message. Joshua’s message The expansion of the cities in the commercial not only shows the extension of Joshua’s message in Nigeria, but also highlights the national coverage of 4G Glo which, like the heavyweight champion, is the number 1 in the country with its diffusion and coverage.

Don’t lose the news when you have the data from Glo! Even the best fighter needs a great team in his corner. Joshua knows this very well and found him in a related spirit, a company that, like him, fights in the heavyweight division of his industry and is not afraid of obstacles. Joshua says in the commercial: “But I can’t carry this title alone.

There must always be someone in my corner. And that’s why I believe in Glo. We have the same tenacity, the spirit of the Nigerian struggle that makes us change the game. You have to dig deep to be a world champion. Yes, we Nigerians, yes, we know everything. Glo, oooo !!! “The story of Glo is quite familiar to Nigerians. T

The founder, Mike Adenuga, was one of the first to bid for the GSM license in Nigeria. But the first license they offered was withdrawn due to an administrative dispute. So, like Anthony Joshua, Globacom made a late entry into the field in 2003 as a loser and senior player. The continental giants who came with years of experience in the sector and quickly conquered Nigeria’s telecommunications market were already entrenched. Without being intimidated by the odds, Globacom threw himself on the floor thinking and running away.

He introduced the billing of payments per second and turned out to be a masterstroke and a turning point. Glo Mobile has also introduced lower rates and together with other value-added services.

The giants had claimed that this was not feasible in Nigeria. But they quickly took to the track when they saw the newcomer bridge the gap and threaten to accelerate strategic initiatives.

Although Glo Mobile was the fourth GSM operator to launch in Nigeria, within seven years of operation, its subscriber grew by over 25 million. In the first year I had a million subscribers in over 87 cities in Nigeria.

The subscriber base in Nigeria was over 45 million until December 2018. Glo Mobile is indeed the second largest mobile network operator in Nigeria and has now been extended to Ghana.

It is one of the most famous Nigerian brands in the world. The mason who became a world heavyweight champion in the TVC revealed the attribute he shares with Glo. These include the spirit of never dying, unlimited, capable of doing, which supports and constitutes the philosophy of the telecommunications giant.

The champion makes a joke to TVC: “Do you need strength?” And then he continued with the statement: “Yes, it comes from the hard blows that life throws at us. And we are Nigerians, we all know it.”

He continued to confront life’s challenges with boxing, saying “Don’t stay down, you have to fight.” You have to go deeper to be a world champion. “He spoke of himself and Glo. Celebrating his Nigerian, Giosuè says:

“I’ve always had a big part of my heart as a Nigerian and I think it’s that piece that sets me apart. He always says to me: ‘Never give up, dream big! We come from a nation of warriors and that is why I believe in Glo. “Continuing the parallel between him and the telecommunications company, he says:” We have the same tenacity, the Nigerian fighting spirit that makes us change the game! We are relentless.

Not only do we face our challenges, but we enter the ring to win again and again. If you believe in yourself, there is no limit to what you can get. Yes, I was a bricklayer in England, but now I’m the world heavyweight champion! “Anthony Joshua knows that every boxer needs a helper in his corner, to wipe the sweat off with the towels and offer advice on how to contain and defeat his opponent. This is exactly what Glo did for it

Wilder makes U-turn, says he now wants Joshua fight before Fury rematch

Deontay Wilder took a 180-degree turn and now said he wanted to fight Anthony Joshua before Tyson Fury’s revenge.

The American criticized Fury for choosing to face a temporary fight instead of immediately resolving his score on May 18th and, consequently, now he would prefer to chase AJ once again.

First, the WBC heavyweight champion must fulfill his mandatory obligation to Dominic Breazeale, which is now likely to be May 18th. READ ALSO: Fury signs an ESPN fight agreement for £ 80 million. When asked if he wanted Joshua or Fury after Breazeale, Wilder told Blue Blood Sports TV: “I want Joshua, of course I want to unify the belts.”

“They know what we want, I don’t see why they keep coming with these offers and stuff like that. “They know what we want, it’s easy, it’s easy to make that fight. They know what they want, but until they can swallow their pride like I did before, we’ve just gotta do what we gotta do.
“I did it, you didn’t wanna go through with it, but I did it. Now it’s time for you to swallow your f***ing pride and give the world one of the best heavyweight fights. “I’mma knock his ass out that’s for sure. I promise you.”

Joshua vows to reconstruct Miller’s face

Anthony Joshua promised to “reconstruct” the face of Jarrell “Big Baby” Miller as the word war between heavyweight rivals intensified.Joshua and “Big Baby” met on Monday at a press conference in London that ended with a tense comparison, although none of the physical aspects emerged in New York last week.“The game-plan is to stop him in seven rounds,” Miller said about his challenge for Joshua’s IBF, WBA and WBO titles on June 1 at Madison Square Garden.

A menacing Joshua replied: “He talks about seven rounds? “Look at his face. I will reconstruct his face and his body. “I’ve got 10 years left. This is all I know. I don’t know football, rugby, NFL, basketball. I know how to knock people out and beat them up. “Every ounce of spirit he has, I will strip him of it. “I will do the job.
I am a good boxer, a heavy-handed boxer. I have beaten better opponents than any heavyweight out there. “I will be the surgeon to give him a makeover.”

Peter Oboh, former British and Commonwealth light heavyweight champion, doubts that the dream fight between the WBA world heavyweight champion, the WBO and the IBF, Anthony Joshua and the overwhelming WBC champion Deontay Wilder.

Speaking to Sunday Vanguard Sports, Oboh said: “We will never be able to attend the mega boxing match that will take place in the first class that we all want to happen.”

. He noted that with Joshua going to America to face Jarrell Miller, the highly orchestrated meeting between him and Wilder seems distant. “No one can predict when that battle will return and anyone will tell you that the fight will come soon, that person will be a joker.”

Swimmers surprised by Japan support Ikee Oboh, who was fascinated by the performance of Tyson Fury in his fight against Wilder who predicted that the British boxer, Fury, could stop Wilder in his revenge showdown on June 28th.

He believes that Joshua’s debut fight in the United States against Jarrell Miller on June 1st was an unworthy risk for the world champion.

He insisted that Wilder would be a better opponent for Joshua than Jarrell Miller because the world champion would have seized the moment to pay the critics who still suspect him.

He said: “Joshua in his current form can beat any boxer in the world, including Wilder, and he would have taken the opportunity to silence the critics who still consider him a” local “champion.

He based his fear that Joshua would face Miller on the assumption that the American could cause a mess.

“From experience, I know there are boxers who have world-class knock-outs (like Joshua, Wilder and Fury) and there are even boxers with a low boxing pedigree but a world-class explosion.

This is one of the secrets of boxing surprises. “I hope Miller is not one with such clever skills. I recommend Joshua to concentrate 100% on Miller,” concluded Oboh.
